Artificial grass for dogs

Pet turf designed for paws, play and easier cleanup.

A dog-friendly artificial lawn needs more than durable blades. NorthLawn plans pet turf projects across Dundas and Hamilton around drainage, base preparation, edge details, cleaning access and maintenance.

Product selection is only part of the solution. Base construction, drainage, infill and a practical cleanup routine all matter.

Pet turf can eliminate muddy patches and withstand repetitive traffic, but odour control depends on how the complete system is built and maintained.

Four priorities for a pet area

Rapid drainage

The turf backing, base and subgrade should move rinse water and rainfall away efficiently.

Stable construction

A compacted base reduces depressions and movement in high-use routes and play zones.

Secure edges

Perimeters around fences, beds and hardscape need details that resist lifting and digging.

Cleaning access

The area should be easy to rinse, brush and reach without trapping debris in inaccessible edges.

Drainage comes before deodorizer

Perforated turf can only drain into the material below it. If the base stays saturated or water has no outlet, surface cleaning products cannot solve the underlying problem. The site plan should account for soil conditions, slope, nearby structures and where runoff can safely go.

Plan the rinse path

Consider hose access, water pressure and whether rinsing will move water toward a suitable permeable area or drain. Avoid directing water toward foundations or neighbouring property.

A practical pet turf cleaning routine

  1. Remove solid waste promptly.
  2. Rinse frequent-use areas on a schedule suited to the number and size of pets.
  3. Use a turf-compatible cleaner when needed, following its instructions.
  4. Remove leaves and organic debris before they break down into the fibres.
  5. Brush flattened high-traffic areas and replenish approved infill if specified.
Important limitation

No artificial turf system is maintenance-free. Cleaning frequency depends on use, weather, drainage and the individual animals.

Details to share before requesting a quote

  • Number and approximate size of dogs.
  • Project dimensions and current surface.
  • Known drainage or standing-water problems.
  • Fence gates, access restrictions and hose location.
  • Whether the area is the pets' primary bathroom space.

Project note: Cleaning products, infill and underlay must be compatible with the selected turf system and safe for the intended use.
