Free artificial grass estimator

Artificial turf calculator for area, allowance and aggregate base.

Enter the length and width of a rectangular space to estimate measured area, turf coverage with allowance and preliminary base volume.

Estimate your artificial turf project

Measured area600 ft²
Turf to plan for660 ft²
Base material8.15 yd³

This is a rectangle estimate, not a roll layout. Actual waste depends on roll width, grain direction, seams, curves and cutouts. Base volume includes 10 percent.

How the turf estimate works

Area = length × width

Turf quantity multiplies area by the selected allowance. Base volume uses area × base depth in inches ÷ 324, then adds 10 percent.

A 30 foot by 20 foot space measures 600 square feet. A 10 percent turf allowance produces 660 square feet. At a 4 inch compacted depth, preliminary base volume with allowance is 8.15 cubic yards.

Why the order quantity may differ

Artificial turf is normally supplied in rolls. The most efficient layout depends on the available roll width, consistent fibre direction, seam placement and the actual shape of the project. A narrow side yard, curved bed or island can create more offcuts than an open rectangle.

  • Measure the longest and widest points, then sketch permanent obstacles.
  • Keep all turf pieces oriented in the same grain direction.
  • Confirm roll dimensions and minimum order rules with the supplier.
  • Have base depth and drainage requirements reviewed for the actual soil and use.
