Artificial turf selection guide

Choose turf by use, not colour alone.

Hamilton-area customers can choose from landscape, pet, putting, play and specialty turf systems. The right product is the one whose yarn, pile, backing, drainage and complete installation assembly fit the space.

Start with the application

The visible turf is only one layer of the project.

Product specifications matter, but base depth, compaction, drainage, seam location, edges and infill often determine whether the surface performs after installation.

Landscape turf

Why: a full, lawn-like appearance for front yards, backyards, courtyards and general residential use. Balance softness with fibre recovery and realistic sheen.

Typical pile
1.5 to 2.0 in.
Typical face weight
50 to 80 oz.
Best fit
Everyday lawns

Pet turf

Why: shorter, accessible fibres and a system designed around drainage, rinsing and repeatable cleaning. Odour control depends on the complete system and care plan.

Typical pile
1.0 to 1.5 in.
Typical face weight
40 to 60 oz.
Best fit
Active dog areas

Putting turf

Why: a dense, low-pile surface selected for predictable ball roll. Base shape, cups, contours, fringe, infill and maintenance are part of the design.

Typical pile
0.4 to 0.75 in.
Typical face weight
40 to 60 oz.
Best fit
Practice greens

Play turf

Why: durable turf for backyard play and activity zones. Equipment, accessibility, fall zones and any required impact layer must be defined before product selection.

Typical pile
1.25 to 1.75 in.
Typical face weight
40 to 60 oz.
Best fit
Family activity

Commercial landscape

Why: a denser, resilient surface for shared spaces, hospitality and property amenities. Traffic, furniture, cleaning, service access and replacement planning matter.

Typical face weight
50 to 80 oz.
Best fit

Sport and specialty turf

Why: application-specific surfaces for training, temporary displays, rooftops and other specialty uses. Performance requirements should lead the specification.
