Compact residential projects

Artificial turf for small yards, side yards and hard-to-use spaces.

A small outdoor area still deserves proper grading, drainage, base construction and finishing. NorthLawn plans compact projects in Dundas and Hamilton around the space, access and how your household will use it.

Thoughtful edges, drainage and material access can turn a difficult compact yard into usable outdoor space.

Artificial turf can be especially useful where a small patch of natural grass receives concentrated traffic, limited sunlight or more maintenance than the space justifies.

Small spaces that can make a big difference

Narrow side yards

Create a clean route through shaded areas where natural grass becomes thin, muddy or awkward to mow.

Townhouse backyards

Turn a compact fenced yard into a finished outdoor room for seating, play and everyday use.

Compact pet areas

Plan drainage, secure edges and practical cleaning access around a smaller dog run or relief zone.

Shaded play corners

Replace worn patches with a durable surface suited to active family use and the surrounding landscape.

What makes a compact project a good fit?

Square footage is only one part of the decision. A small open rectangle may be efficient, while a smaller area with stairs, poor drainage, tight corners or long hand-carry routes may require substantially more labour.

  • Approximate length, width and total area are known.
  • The existing surface and expected excavation can be identified.
  • Gate width, stairs and material-carry distance are clear.
  • Water has a safe route away from buildings and vulnerable edges.
  • The intended use, turf type and finished transitions are defined.
Small does not mean shortcut construction

A lasting result still depends on removing unsuitable material, preparing the base, managing drainage, securing edges and fitting the turf carefully.

Can a small turf project be completed quickly?

Some straightforward compact projects can be scheduled efficiently once the scope is confirmed. NorthLawn does not promise a one day installation before reviewing access, excavation, drainage, material handling, disposal and site conditions.

Measure the space

Record dimensions, fixed obstacles, edges and the path materials must travel.

Review the existing surface

Identify sod, soil, gravel, concrete, roots, low areas and disposal requirements.

Confirm the complete system

Match turf, base, drainage, edging and infill to the intended use.

Schedule from a defined scope

Confirm materials and labour after the site conditions have been reviewed.

Small yard turf questions

Is my yard too small for professional installation?

Not necessarily. Suitability depends on the complete scope and the value of solving the space, not square footage alone.

What should I send with my quote request?

Include rough dimensions, several photographs, the existing surface, access points, drainage concerns and what you want the finished space to do.

Will a narrow yard create more turf waste?

It can. Roll width, fibre direction, seams, curves and fixed obstacles affect the cut plan. Final quantities should be confirmed after a layout review.

Project note: Final pricing and scheduling require confirmed measurements, site conditions and installation scope.
